The Organization

The Alaska Miners Association is a non-profit corporation headquartered in Anchorage with branches located in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Kenai, Juneau, Denali, and Nome.

AMA Goals

  • Provide services to the membership which will assist them in their mining activities.
  • Monitor the political processes to help keep lands available for mineral exploration and development.
  • Insure that the restrictions on land and water use are economically realistic and provide a balance between environmental protection and resource utilization.
  • Increase public awareness of the mineral industry and its economic implications to the State and nation.
  • Encourage and support responsible mineral production in Alaska.

AMA Activities

The association works to promote the mining industry in Alaska. It advocates the development and use of Alaska's mineral resources to provide an economic base for the State.

AMA monitors the activities of State and Federal Government, Congress and the Legislature that affect mineral development, including:

  • Regulations and policies developed by State and Federal Agencies.
  • Land use plans
  • Permitting processes
  • Proposed legislation
  • Taxes, fees, or other costs levied against the industry.
  • Inventory, mapping, and data collection
  • Research
  • Education Programs
The AMA holds its statewide convention in Anchorage each fall and jointly sponsors an annual placer convention in Fairbanks during the spring. Conventions are usually preceded by short courses offering intensive education in topics of interest to the mining community.
